Located in a historically rich neighbourhood of Leiden, this project involved extending a family home for an international couple with two children. The existing kitchen was too small and dark, so we expanded the house towards the garden, taking care of all permits and compliance with local regulations.

The extension allowed us to maximize the kitchen area, adding ample storage, a large central island, and an adjacent sitting and breakfast nook. We also preserved an older structure next to the extension, transforming it into a pantry and laundry room to further enhance the kitchen’s functionality.

To bring natural light into the new space, we incorporated a skylight. Given the historical constraints of the area, the height of the extension had to remain modest. To make the kitchen feel more spacious and airy, we opted for soft, light-colored cabinetry and countertops that reflect the natural light and create the illusion of a larger space.

The styling followed the same concept, with earthy, soft tones complemented by neutral accents to maintain a calm, cohesive look throughout the new kitchen area.
